Ask-a-Scientist. Free and virtual event for the public
July 23, 7:00 to 8:30 PM (CST)

Curious about the precision genome editing tools and how they impact our everyday lives? Attend this special session during the Genome Writers Guild conference that’s designed for anyone curious about the amazing future-now bio-technologies.

The event features talks by geneticist Dr. Alison Van Eenennaam, University of California at Davis, and Dr. Anil Challa, University of Alabama at Birmingham. Stay for the Q & A after their talks to kick-start a lively discussion with your questions for Anil and Alison.

CRISPR in the Classroom: The event begins with Dr. Challa presenting his innovative workshop for teachers to learn about CRISPR technology and take it to their undergraduate biology classrooms. Check out a preview.

CRISPR Critters and TALEN Tofu: Then Alison Van Eenennaam, geneticist and science communicator extraordinaire, explains how precision editing tools — CRISPR and TALENs — can make our animals healthier and food safer. And the role that genome editing plays in introducing useful features like disease resistance and nutrient fortification into food production systems. Listen to the Science Friday episode about CRISPR critters.

This is a free event. Register to receive updates. A link will be sent the day before the event.
